Grow With Phonics 101

Children's reading success is dependent upon their understanding of phonics. It is important to understand that letters and letter patterns represent sounds of spoken language. Phonics instruction teaches the relationship between letters of written language and the sounds of spoken language. This working knowledge is the foundation of all great readers.

Good Reader Reading Strategies

Reading longer texts can be a challenge for some scholars. This course teaches scholars 3 different reading strategies they can use to help them break down the text and comprehend what they are reading. These reading strategies are research based and will help scholars improve their reading comprehension.

1 : 1 Tutoring

We offer one on one tutoring sessions. All sessions are individualized and designed to meet the specific needs of each scholar. Before sessions we conduct theory based assessments with each scholar to collect data and determine the scholar's academic and social needs. Academic plans are created and tailored to meet the scholars needs during each session.

The Writer's Focus

Many scholars struggle with translating their thoughts into meaningful words. The Writers' Focus course teaches scholars how to analyze writing prompts, articulate their thoughts, and find evidence to support their writing. Writing strategies are shared with scholars and practiced repeatedly to build writing focus and confidence.

African American Heroes Writing Course

This course aims to educate scholars about the concept of heroism and to teach the history of African American heroes of the 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. Scholars will enhance their critical thinking, creativity, as well as increase their writing skills. Throughout this course scholars develop sound research skills while working collaboratively with others to create a virtual museum of African American heroes.

TLA Youth Book Club

Making reading fun is the goal here. Reading collaboratively with peers typically boosts most students' confidence and encourages them to read more. This book club will meet once a week to discuss their shared reading. Students will also answer text based comprehension questions. All books will be provided to students virtually so they can access the readings at any time.

Young Entrepreneurs

There are many great young writers who want to share their writing with the world. The Teacher's Lounge Atlanta will show youth how to edit, publish, and sell their writing. Authors will work collaboratively with other writers to share ideas and determine the best strategies for continued success as a young author.

Teaching opportunities will also be available for youth who would like to become teachers. These young teachers will have opportunities to teacher their expertise virtually to others and get paid for their classes.
